Rockler Helps Plant 10,000 Trees for Earth Day - Partnership with Hardwood Forestry Fund to Benefit Indiana, Ohio Forests
Medina, MN (PRWEB) April 16, 2015 -- Rockler Woodworking and Hardware's partnership with the Hardwood Forestry Fund will result in the planting of 10,000 trees this spring. The Earth Day effort involves two separate planting projects – one in northwestern Indiana and another in southeastern Ohio.
Planting in Indiana
This planting will take place in May on an eight acre portion of a site called the Doak Property, located in northwestern Indiana and managed by Purdue University. It will feature several hardwood species including Black Walnut, Cherry, Northern Red Oak and White Oak with softwood nurse trees interspersed to optimize the health and growth of all 5,000 trees planted.
Planting in Ohio
A selection of 5,000 trees including hardwood species such as Northern Red Oak, White Oak and Black Walnut will be planted this spring on a ten acre parcel of the Gifford State Forest in Athens County, Ohio. The land is managed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and is part of their ongoing sustainable forest regeneration effort.
Both planting sites are open to the public and promote education and awareness of the sustainability of forested land. Visits by local schools and the general public number in the thousands annually.

The Hardwood Forestry Fund recently recognized Rockler's past contributions to hardwood tree planting with the Gifford Pinchot Award, named after the founder of the American Forest Conservation, Gifford Pinchot.
A not-for-profit, educational organization, The Hardwood Forestry Fund targets planting and management of commercially valuable hardwoods, including black cherry, black walnut, red oak, hard maple, hickory, ash, and others. All trees planted by the Hardwood Forestry Fund are included in a management plan, harvest, and regeneration schedule.
