Rockler Introduces Hardware Kits That Let Turners Craft Custom Cabinet Knobs and Pulls
Medina, MN (PRWEB) March 08, 2016 -- Rockler Woodworking and Hardware has introduced four turning hardware kits that make it easy for anyone with a lathe to create unique knobs and pulls for cabinet drawers and doors.
The new Custom Pull and Custom Knob Turning Kits feature mounting posts with a brushed nickel finish, and they're available in modern or traditional styles to complement a full range of decors. Their design makes crafting custom cabinet hardware as simple as turning a pen or a bottle stopper, allowing woodworkers and DIYers to achieve the look they want by turning the body of the knob or pull from special wood, colorful acrylics or other material of their choice.
"One of the easiest ways to update old cabinets or give new cabinets unique style is to install distinctive knobs and pulls," said Steve Krohmer, Rockler's vice president of merchandising and product development. "These kits allow complete control over both the material and the shape of the knobs and pulls for truly one-of-a-kind hardware."
To make turning easy, the Custom Pull Kits use 7mm brass tubes, which are common in many pen kits and allow for turning with a standard pen mandrel. The recommended Custom Pull Bushings (58077, sold separately) mount on the pen mandrel and provide a precise guide for shaping a perfect transition from the turning to the hardware. The 4-1/2"long brass tubes — which can be cut to fit if the pulls are to be in retrofit applications — allow turners to draw from the array of standard 3/4" x 3/4" x 5" pen blanks available in wood, acrylic and other materials.
Blanks for the Custom Knob Kits can be turned on Rockler's 3/4" Shoulder Mandrel with 1/4"-20 Threads (51530, sold separately) that's been mounted in a lathe chuck.
Assembly is simple: The hardware in the Custom Pull Kits has tapered ends that press into the ends of the brass tubes in the same way that pen kits are assembled. For the Knob Kits, a decorative retaining cap presses into the front of the knob. Both kits then attach to the cabinet with included #8-32 x 1" mounting bolts. Each kit contains hardware for a single pull or knob.
