Ron Forman Announces Audubon Park to Receive 20 Mature Live Oaks Through Funding from Chevron
New Orleans, LA (PRWEB) December 20, 2013 -- Visitors to Audubon Park will notice eight new, mature live oak trees lining the iconic park’s scenic jogging path and Lagoon, the first of 20 being added to the park by 2016. The planting is made possible by Chevron’s support of the Olmsted Renewed campaign, Audubon Nature Institute’s fundraising initiative to preserve the popular recreational facility’s future.
Like all tree species on the grounds, the live oaks funded by Chevron will be cared for and protected year-round by Audubon’s team of expert arborists and horticulturists.
In addition to 20 live oaks, Chevron is conducting a series of educational workshops for visitors that will provide information about the tree population in Louisiana’s coastal parishes and the importance of conservation and biodiversity to our state. Three of six workshops have been completed, the most recent of which highlighted Blue Dog creator George Rodrigue’s conservation efforts through art. More information about workshops can be found at http://www.auduboninstitute.org/families/family-fun.
“As many of our centuries-old live oaks and other tree species reach maturity, planting new trees is of crucial importance to sustain the timeless beauty of Audubon Park,” said Ron Forman, President and CEO of Audubon Nature Institute. “We are grateful to our corporate donors like Chevron, who are ensuring Audubon Park continues to be a treasured natural resource for New Orleanians to enjoy for generations to come.”
“Chevron is proud to support the sustainability of green space in New Orleans and environmental science education for our youth,” said Sakari Morrison, General Manager Chevron Public Affairs. “This project is a testament to our enduring partnership with the Audubon Institute, and we look forward to the next hundred years of Audubon Park.”
Based in Covington, LA, Chevron’s Gulf of Mexico business unit has approximately 1,800 employees and approximately 2,000 contractors daily.
