On August 15, a 52-year-old cyclist was taken to hospital in critical condition after being struck by a car in downtown Toronto. According to witnesses, the cyclist was stopped at a traffic light when he was struck by the vehicle, knocking him onto the top of the car, after which the vehicle sped forward, throwing him to the ground, where he hit his head on the sidewalk. The cyclist was not wearing a helmet.
