Rowers Use Chiropractic To Gain An Edge In The Henley Regatta
United Kingdom (PRWEB UK) 29 June 2016 -- When it comes to sporting events few compare to the grueling trial that is The Henley Royal Regatta.
With five long days of racing, and winning margins often coming down to just tenths of a second, it’s pretty understandable that competitors need to give themselves that extra ‘edge’.
Enter the Chiropractic tactic.
To gain the advantage over their competitors in the prestigious event, Molesey Rowing Club have turned to Chiropractic care to ensure they are physically and mentally prepared for what they’re up against.
The Regatta itself is merely the final test for what has been ten months of preparation for those taking part. Enduring early morning wake-up calls and facing all weathers dressed in little more than lycra, these athletes push their bodies to the limit every day.
However, the most devastating threat to their athletic success is training time lost to injury. It can lay waste to months of preparation and, in extreme cases, can put the athletes future in the sport under threat.
This was where Pete Robinson, of Molesey Rowing Club found himself in 2012. Pete was in peak condition and had just taken part in the European Rowing Championships as part of the Great British Rowing Senior Squad. However, Pete’s dreams of the Rio Olympics were suddenly shattered when, during a routine weight training session, he herniated 3 discs in his lower spine. Ouch.
Unfortunately, the prognosis meant Pete would never compete at the same level again. Faced with this daunting prospect, he decided he would try an alternate route…
Luckily he met with Dr Conor Ward, a talented Chiropractor at The Halsa Group (the largest providers of chiropractic and physiotherapy services in Europe) "I completely understood the strain Pete was under, having competed in the sport myself for 14 years. With 8 years experience in treating disc injuries, I have developed my own protocol for gaining the best results with disc injuries."
He discovered that the Pete’s injury was due to an underlying spinal dysfunction known as a ‘Subluxation,’ an accumulation of stresses and strains built up over a period of time.
Luckily Dr Conor was able to correct Pete’s problem, but might have been able to prevent the injury altogether if he had examined Pete sooner.
Four years on, Pete is not only rowing at elite level but is now pulling better scores than he had prior to his injury. His success in returning from injury is sadly quite rare, but his upturn in form has not gone unnoticed by his crew mates. Many are now also seeking Chiropractic care with Dr Conor and Halsa Care Group, in order to prevent injury and boost their chances for glory at Henley Royal.
