Charlestown, RI (PRWEB) June 10, 2014 -- Royal Flush Havanese prides itself in its exceptional care of its Havanese dogs, and knows that one of the best ways to spoil canines is through homemade, healthy and delicious pet-friendly treats. Below are several recipes worth barking about.
Whole Wheat and Peanut Butter Biscuits
Preheat the oven to 375F, and grease baking sheet with vegetable oil. Combine 2 cups of whole-wheat flour, ½ cup of old fashioned oats, and 1 tablespoon of baking powder. Stir in 1 cup of low sodium chicken broth and add 1 cup of creamy peanut butter. Mix until the dough becomes crumbly. Knead the dough for about 30 seconds, and roll it out with a rolling pin until it is about ½ an inch thick. Cut the dough into fun shapes using cookie-cutters and place on the baking sheet. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, and bake for about 20 minutes, or until lightly golden. Makes approximately a dozen 5-inch treats, and can be stored for up to a week.
Strawberry Popsicle Bites
These treats are perfect for helping a canine beat the heat of summer! Blend together 2 cups of plain organic yogurt and 1/3 cup of chopped strawberries until it becomes a smoothie. Pour this mixture into an ice cube tray or empty egg carton and spread evenly throughout. Cover with tin foil and place in freezer until solid. Other flavors can be created and mixed by using raspberries, bananas, watermelon, pineapple or blueberries.
Pumpkin Balls
As explained in our article “Natural Home Remedies for Dog Injuries and Ailments,” canned pumpkin can greatly aid the canine digestive system. This snack also includes vitamin A, beta-carotene, potassium, and iron. To begin, preheat the oven to 350 degrees, and grease a cookie sheet. In a bowl, mix together ½ cup canned pumpkin, 4 tablespoons of molasses, 4 tablespoons of water, and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Next, add in 2 cups of whole-wheat flour, ¼ teaspoon baking soda, ¼ teaspoon baking powder, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Mix together until the dough becomes soft, scoop out spoonfuls, and roll into balls. Place on the baking sheet and flatten slightly. Bake for 25 minutes or until dough is hardened.
Turkey Bacon and Cheese Treats
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and combine 2.5 cups of whole-wheat flour and 1 tablespoon of baking powder. Stir in 1 cup of milk, ¼ cup of cooked and crumbled turkey bacon, and ¼ cup cheddar cheese. If dough is too sticky, add more flour. Place dough in balls on a greased cookie sheet, and bake for 10 minutes. Flip treats over, and bake for an additional 10 minutes. These treats can be stories for up to 5 days, or frozen for up to a month.
No Bake Coconut Oat Balls
Mix together 1/3 cup coconut oil, 2 to 3 tablespoons of peanut butter, and 2.5 cups of rolled oats in a food processor until well combined. Scoop out small pieces and roll into small balls. Roll each ball in 1/3 cup finely shredded coconut and place on a tray lines with wax paper. Refrigerate for 30 minutes and serve.
