RSD Announces the First Information Governance Enabler for Amazon Web Services S3
Geneva, Switzerland (PRWEB) July 23, 2013 -- RSD, a leading provider of information governance solutions for the enterprise, today announced the support for in-place governance of content stored in the cloud through Amazon Web Services S3, or AWS S3.
“Through the ease and low cost of storing content with cloud providers like Amazon Web Services, organizations are seeing even greater information proliferation, with fewer governance controls than before,” commented Stéphane Croisier, RSD Senior Product Manager. “Companies need solutions to enforce governance directly on the information residing in these strategic repositories, ensuring content is properly managed according to defined corporate policies. With RSD, organizations regain control of corporate information residing in the cloud, while maximizing its strategic use, thereby enabling them to be more nimble and competitive.”
RSD GLASS® is a patent-pending platform used to power corporate information governance programs for electronic and physical records using policies that are jurisdiction-aware. These policies are then actively enforced across organizational boundaries, IT systems, content repositories, shared drives, desktops, cloud-based repositories, and even paper archives. RSD GLASS mitigates the risks and increases the value associated with storing information in the cloud.
AWS S3 is Amazon’s main storage system and provides a simple web services interface that is used to store and retrieve vast amount of data, at any time, from anywhere on the web. It gives any developer access to the same highly scalable, reliable, secure, fast, inexpensive infrastructure that Amazon uses to run its own global network of web sites.
Cloud offerings licensed to customers on a term basis result in cost savings, which is a key motivation for adoption. They are usually very affordable and represent a real cost-effective alternative for storing terabytes of archives which need to be kept for several decades for compliance reasons, but are not frequently access by the business end-users any more. However, most cloud repositories currently lack the basic legal and record management capability to turn them into a truly valid system of records. RSD GLASS® integrates with AWS S3, as well as existing on-premise repositories, to enforce corporate policies on all information, wherever it resides. By coupling RSD GLASS® with AWS S3, organizations immediately turn cloud storage into a compliance system of records and optimize storage costs by transparently moving archives to the cloud over time to reduce storage and maintenance costs without impacting the way business users access and retrieve these documents.
By providing a repository-agnostic information governance layer to AWS S3, RSD GLASS brings a wide range of benefits, such as:
• An intuitive interface for defining and maintaining policies
• Integration with legal content providers to automatically receive regular updates on new laws and regulations impacting compliance initiatives
• Support for multiple jurisdictions with different retention, disposition and/or anonymization constraints
• Enforcement of complex policies without disrupting the business end-user
• Automated content orchestration policy (i.e. move content based on business and strategy) over time from one repository to another
• Extended business-oriented functional capabilities, such as a unified web interface for business users, full text search capabilities, dynamic navigation, advanced document security roles and permissions, and more.
“Cloud repositories currently lack information governance and records management capabilities,” continued Croisier. “RSD GLASS is the only solution on the market to enable information governance for AWS S3. By utilizing RSD GLASS with cloud content repositories such as AWS S3, organizations are now able to immediately turn the cloud repositories into a system of records while letting business end-users continue using their applications as before. Organizations choose to keep or automatically move information over time wherever it makes strategic sense for business initiatives, whether on-premise or in the cloud, without risking non-compliance, thereby providing greater flexibility for smarter business decisions.”
