Rutgers Students Sign Leases Early at Rockoff Hall Apartments to Avoid Housing Lottery
New Brunswick, NJ (PRWEB) December 12, 2013 -- Leasing kicked off just a few weeks ago at Rockoff Hall, a newly independent student housing community at Rutgers, and numerous lease applications were submitted in the first three weeks.
All students who wish to live in Rutgers’ housing on the New Brunswick campus are required to apply for a lottery number between Monday, Jan. 21st and Tuesday, Jan. 29th 2014. For the first time, Rockoff Hall does not apply to this process.
Formerly a student housing community exclusively occupied by Rutgers, Rockoff Hall is now being privately leased to residents as an independent student housing community, allowing students to avoid the stressful housing lottery process and secure a spot for next year before the housing lottery registration even begins.
“The excitement and interest that we’ve seen in just the first few weeks of opening up the leasing process at Rockoff Hall is even better than we anticipated,” said Rodd Werstil, managing director of real estate investments for McKinney Properties, the new owner of the community. “The majority of the students who have already secured a spot for the 2014-2015 school year are telling us that one of the biggest motivators for them is the opportunity to avoid the housing lottery completely.”
Along with skipping the lottery, Rockoff Hall residents will enjoy the upgrades to the community that will be complete before June: dishwashers are being added to all apartments, the fitness center is being renovated; and Coldstone Creamery is being converted into a high end lounge solely for residents of Rockoff.
“I chose to sign on for Rockoff Hall apartments for the coming year for a number of reasons. I really wanted to pick somewhere off campus, and Rockoff Hall has beautiful accommodations with a city feel,” said Sophia Wood, a fourth year pharmacy student at Rutgers who was previously commuting from home. “I decided to sign the lease early because my roommate Natalie and I really wanted to sign up before all the one bedroom spots filled up. It's also great to have a place picked out since it's one less thing to worry about during the coming semester.”
David Strassberg, leasing manager for Rockoff Hall, says that more leases than expected were secured in the first few weeks of leasing, and that he has interest from a couple hundred current residents who are considering staying put now that Rockoff Hall is being privately leased.
“We are offering residents the option to remain in their current apartment over the summer if they don’t want to worry about moving out and moving back in for the fall semester,” said Strassberg.
Located on George Avenue between the College Avenue and Cook/Douglas campuses, the 674-bed community features an all-inclusive model, meaning that each student’s rent includes all furniture, security, and all utilities such as cable and Internet. Residents also have unlimited access to Rockoff Hall’s on-site amenities, including the private fitness center, business center with free printing and computer access, common areas for studying, and TV lounges. Apartments are leased by the bed and roommate matching is available for interested residents.
Residents can choose from a variety of floorplans, including a one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment (two person occupancy); a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment (four person occupancy); or a three-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment (three person occupancy).
Students are able to sign leases now to guarantee their spot at Rockoff Hall in June 2014.
