Sacramento Elevator Contractor Giving Discount on Five Year Load Test

“This is a State requirement that every commercial elevator is required to receive, so we thought we could give customers a break on the pricing,” says Terri Speel of Pac West Elevator. Load testing is required every five years by the State of California on every commercial application which includes apartment buildings, libraries, office buildings, schools, medical facilities and retail locations. Elevators, material lifts, dumbwaiters, stair lifts and wheelchair lifts are all required to have the test performed. Load tests are conducted on elevator equipment to confirm reliability. All documentation of the test results is sent to the California Department of Occupational Safety and Health, (DOSH). The State of California requires an inspection once every two years.
All elevators installed prior to 2006 must have a full load and safety system check every five years. All elevators installed after 2006 must have the safety system checked and have a load tested annually. A drop test is required for traction elevators. A system pressure check for hydraulic units is required.
“The elevator owner is always able to seek bids from other elevator contractors for testing and inspections. They do not have to stick with the maintenance company to perform repair, modernization or preliminary order work. This is always assumed in the industry that you have to use your maintenance company,” says Teri.
