SAE International Announces Highlights from Opening Day of the COMVEC 17 Event
WARRENDALE, Pa. (PRWEB) October 02, 2017 -- SAE International’s COMVEC17 wrapped up a successful two-day run at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O'Hare Hotel & Conference Center in Rosemont, Ill on September 18th. This landmark event brought together over 500 commercial vehicle industry professionals to discuss their shared roles in vehicle and equipment development spanning many sectors, including the on- and off-highway, agricultural, and construction industries.
Dr. Johannes-Joerg Rueger, President, Commercial Vehicle and Off-Road, Robert Bosch GmbH, addressed a standing room-only crowd, sharing his thoughts on the trends, benefits and solutions regarding advanced driver assistance (ADAS) for on-highway vehicles and automation in both on- and off-highway operations during his opening keynote address.
Challenges relating to the development of autonomous vehicles remained a persistent topic of conversation throughout day one of the symposium. During a session on Vehicle Architectures for Connectivity and Processing, Tri Huynh, Nvidia’s Senior Manager of Business Development – Autonomous Vehicles stated “One of the hardest computer science problems is self-driving. The things you have to detect on the road, and make the right decision, is a nearly impossible software problem; you can never write enough software to detect everything you see out there.”
COMVEC 17’s technical program featured over 35 additional sessions spanning across variety of topics including data driven decision making, changes in the data landscape and posits on the future of business, advancements in electronics and predictive controls, improvements in the overall energy management of the system, efficiencies of hybrid and full-electric powertrains, the future role of aerodynamic design methods, tools and processes, among others.
“Our goal for COMVEC 17 was to re-engineer the premier engineering congress in the commercial vehicle sector to deliver the most relevant, pertinent, and up-to-date information to our participants; to talk about the biggest ideas in the most critical areas, and I think we did that. We have never had such a strong lineup of executives and engineering thought leaders, and the new symposiums and panels provided much more interaction with attendees. We will continue to look for ways to improve, but I believe we have laid a strong foundation for the future,” said Tom Stover, COMVEC 17 Executive Council Chair.
Organizers released the dates of September 11-13, 2018 for the 2018 event. Additional details on the COMVEC 18 will be released shortly. To keep up-to-date with the latest information, visit sae.org/comvec.
