SAE International Honors Washington University (St. Louis) Professor with Aerospace Leadership Award

Agarwal, William Palm Professor of Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, was honored with the SAE International Aerospace Engineering Leadership Award during the SAE 2013 AeroTech Congress and Exhibition, held in Montreal, Canada.
Established in 1992, the award honors an individual at the corporate official level for outstanding contributions to the field of aerospace engineering through his/her leadership skills. It recognizes an individual who has applied their leadership skills in aerospace engineering to make contributions leading to great positive impact on the aerospace community.
Prior to his current position, Dr. Agarwal was the Sam Bloomfield Distinguished Professor (1994-2001) at Wichita State University (WSU) in Kansas, and served as chair of Aerospace Engineering Department (1994-96) and executive director of the National Institute for Aviation Research (1996-2001). He worked at McDonnell Douglas Research Laboratories (MDRL) in St. Louis (1978-94) in a variety of research and administrative positions, eventually becoming the Program Director and McDonnell Douglas science and engineering fellow (1990-94).
Since earning his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1975, Dr. Agarwal has worked in computational fluid dynamics, computational magneto-hydrodynamics and electromagnetics, rarefied gas dynamics, bio-fluid dynamics, flow and flight Control, and multidisciplinary design and optimization. More recently, he has devoted some of his efforts to renewable energy systems and issues related to sustainable air and ground transportation. He is author/co-author of more than 300 publications and he serves on the editorial board of several journals, and has served on several state and federal government advisory committees and university and industry advisory boards.
Dr. Agarwal is a Fellow of the American Association for Advancement of Science (AAAS), the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), the American Physical Society (APS), the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), The Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS), the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE).
