SAE International Publishes Updates Standard to Address Risk of Counterfeit Parts in the Global Aerospace Industry
WARRENDALE, Pa. (PRWEB) October 20, 2016 -- SAE International has published an update to its technical standard that helps address counterfeit risk mitigation on a global scale.
“AS 5553B: Counterfeit Electrical, Electronic, and Electromechanical (EEE) Parts; Avoidance, Detection, Mitigation, and Disposition” was originally created in response to concerns of EEE parts entering the supply chains of the aerospace and other high-reliability and critical sectors, posing significant performance, reliability and safety risks.
The newly updated document has been expanded to address counterfeit risk mitigation across multi-sector electronic supply chain industries and to provide uniform requirements, practices and methods to mitigate the risks of receiving and installing counterfeit EEE parts.
SAE International also published AS5553B’s counterpart document, “ARP6328 - Guideline for Development of Counterfeit Electronic Parts; Avoidance, Detection, Mitigation, and Disposition Systems,” whi ch provides definitions and guidelines useful in the development of a counterfeit electronic mitigation plan.
AS5553B and ARP6328 were created by SAE International’s G-19CI C Committee, which was chartered to address aspects of preventing, detecting, responding to and counteracting the threat of counterfeit electronic components.
