safetyBUILT-IN Principal Eric Svendsen, Ph.D. to Speak at a Training Event in Malaysia
Denver, CO (PRWEB) July 24, 2014 -- Representatives with safetyBUILT-IN announced today that its Principal, Eric Svendsen, Ph.D. has accepted an invitation to facilitate at the Opus Kinetic event, Sept. 2-3 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
“We’re very excited to bring the ‘From Compliance to Culture’ safety-leadership program to southeastern Asia,” Svendsen said. “We have had a large following of newsletter subscribers in that region for several years, and are now able to make our live training session available as well, thanks to Opus Kinetic.”
Opus Kinetic is an industry training and development company.
The two-day workshop is targeted at those responsible for leading a safety culture in their organization, including operations/production leadership (team leaders, supervisors, managers, directors, VPs, business-unit presidents), EH&S professionals, and safety committee members.
This workshop, according to company representatives, is a roll-up-your-sleeves, get-out-of-your-seat, skills-building experience that develops real-world competencies for leading a safety culture in the work environment.
The workshop aims to change the way those in attendance think about safety and the way they behave in safety situations.
Svendsen, who will facilitate during the two-day event, is well versed in safety leadership.
“Managing health and safety risk are becoming a vital issue in Asia, and we are proud to have Eric Svendsen present his renowned course in Kuala Lumpur in September. We have confirmed strong interest from participants, who told us they are keen to learn how to instill a safety culture and learn best practices in leading safety culture through demonstrable and sustainable actions,” said Sally Tan, Head of Research, Opus Kinetic.
safetyBUILT-IN, is a safety-leadership learning and development company that believes sustainable safety performance is best achieved through a safety culture based on core values, and that safety culture must be driven by leadership.
“Our safety-leadership programs are competency-based, and focused on performance outcomes,” Svendsen pointed out, before adding, “We believe in building capability and ownership into our client organizations to ensure program sustainability and so that our clients can continue running those programs long after we’re out of the picture.”
The company’s emphasis is on building better leadership presence, better leadership communication and better leadership coaching by first building relationships of trust with people and learning how to engage them on the level of their core values and beliefs.
“We tailor all our programs to our clients, and cover all levels of the organization, from executive leadership to front-line employees,” Svendsen said. “Our success is due to getting people to think about safety in a different way—safety is a value and belief that impacts our friends and family; it’s not simply a policy, top priority, or a really good idea. Right thinking drives right behaviors in safety, so our message is, safety is a culture that we live and lead, not a compliance regulation that we follow and enforce. Safety must be built in to all we do, not bolted on to it.”
Svendsen added that he hopes to do the same at the training event in September.
