Sage "One For All" Donates Laptops to Chicagoland Families
CHICAGO, Illinois (PRWEB) January 20, 2016 -- Nearly 200,000 Chicagoland families lack a computer at home, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Sage Sustainable Electronics is teaming with the American Association of IT Professionals (AITP) Chicago Chapter, TechNexus, LEGG, and the Illinois Technology Foundation to provide a free laptop to every qualifying Chicago area family that needs one.
“It is shocking that so many families in Chicagoland live without this basic appliance for success in our digital age,” said Justin Nemeth, president AITP Chicago, “We are thrilled to support the One For All initiative, and are pleased to be part of the partnership to make it happen locally.”
One For All is administered by Sage Sustainable Electronics. As Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher, Sage will include fully licensed Microsoft Windows and Office software with all refurbished laptops. “Our goal is to provide each recipient with a new device experience,” said Jill Vaské, Sage President. Sage will coordinate with Chicagoland companies willing to donate a minimum of 10 qualifying laptops to recover the devices, provide certified data erasure and refurbishing, and to furnish documentation of the entire transaction following the donation.
A participating network of Chicago area not-for-profit organizations--Lumity, YearUp and Genesys Works--will qualify and distribute the refurbished computers to families in need. “A key element of every student’s success is having a computer at home,” said Kara Kennedy, Executive Director at Lumity. “Ensuring families have full-time access to basic digital resources is important to seeing that all our kids get the education they deserve,” she said.
“We estimate that nearly three-quarters of a million laptops are retired each year in the Chicago area,” Vaské noted. “Many of those are recycled in spite of being fully operational. One For All connects older working technology that might otherwise go to waste with individuals desperately needing access to the internet,” she said.
The Illinois Technology Foundation is the sponsoring non-profit for the One For All Chicago Campaign. Businesses interested in donating their laptops, or with questions, should contact ITF Chairman & CEO Bill Waas at bwaas(at)itfound(dot)org. More information is available on the ITF website.
