Sagicor Life Insurance Company Gives Back by Funding Step Up For Students Scholarships
Tampa, Fla. (PRWEB) December 04, 2014 -- On Tuesday morning, representatives from Sagicor Life Insurance Company (Sagicor) visited Central Baptist Christian School in Brandon, near Tampa, to present the company’s contribution to the Step Up For Students Scholarship Program. They spoke to the students, many of whom use the scholarship to attend the school, about the importance of education.
Sagicor is a new donor to the scholarship program and is providing about six scholarships this school year.
“At Sagicor, we believe that a good life is built on a strong foundation, which is exactly why we are partnering with Step Up For Students,” said company President Bart Catmull. “We are proud to help provide a strong educational foundation through our participation in this program, so that students can create a brighter future for themselves. I hope that this is the first of many contributions we make to Step Up.”
Step Up For Students helps administer the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program, which provides scholarships to qualified families throughout Florida. The program allows recipients to choose between a scholarship to help with private school tuition and fees, or a transportation scholarship to attend an out-of-district public school. Scholarships are funded by corporations that receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for their contributions.

This school year, nearly 69,000 students are using the scholarship to attend the school of their parents’ choice. More than 100 of the 207 students at Central Baptist Christian School receive scholarship help from Step Up For Students.

Step Up For Students is a nonprofit organization responsible for administering the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program. The scholarship program is available to students who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch and students who are in foster care or who are homeless. It provides tuition assistance to the private school of their parents’ choice or transportation help to an out-of-district public school. Scholarships are funded by corporations that receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for their contributions.
Step Up For Students also helps administer state-funded Personal Learning Scholarship Accounts (PLSA) for Florida students with certain special needs. With the PLSA’s, recipients may use the funds for a variety of services including private tutoring, occupational therapy, instructional materials and other services.
