Sailormen Inc. Popeyes Raises Record $703,034 for Local MDA Families
Miami, FL (PRWEB) May 27, 2014 -- Sailormen Inc. Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen and the Muscular Dystrophy Association announced today that the 2014 “Appetite for a Cure” program and the annual Sailormen Inc., Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen Golf Classic have raised a record-breaking $703,034 to help save and improve lives of children and adults affected by muscle disease.
The Sailormen Inc., Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen Golf Classic celebrated its 10th anniversary this year on May 8 in Miami Lakes, Fla. More than 40 companies sponsored the premier golf event that raised more than $163,000 to help those served by MDA.
Additionally, this year's “Appetite for a Cure” program ran from Jan. 27 through March 16, at participating Popeyes restaurants in South Florida and across the Southeast. The program raised a record $539,863 through the sale of $1 coupon cards worth $30 to be used toward free and discounted purchases during future visits.

“For many years Sailormen/Popeyes has fueled MDA’s mission of help and hope, and this year’s fundraising results are a perfect example of the company’s true dedication to support families served by MDA,” said Katie Bobin, divisional director of the Muscular Dystrophy Association chapter in South Florida. “Their outstanding efforts through hosting a hugely successful coupon card program and golf event are important because they help raise not only awareness, but the funds needed to help find treatments and cures for dozens of neuromuscular diseases."
The annual coupon program and golf tournament directly benefit local families affected by muscular dystrophy and related diseases by helping to support MDA's programs of research and health care services, including sending local kids to a weeklong, barrier-free MDA summer camp at Gold Coast Camp in Lake Worth, Fla.
Medical services in South Florida are provided through the MDA Clinic at the University of Miami School Of Medicine.
