Saint Francis Healthcare Becomes 1 out of 5 Hospitals in the Nation to Receive Perinatal Care Certification
Wilmington, Delaware (PRWEB) August 12, 2016 -- Saint Francis Healthcare has been recognized for continuing to provide quality care to Wilmington and Northern New Castle County, earning a Perinatal Care Certification from The Joint Commission. Saint Francis is the only hospital in Delaware, and one of only five hospitals in the nation, to achieve this recognition.
The Perinatal Care Certification distinguishes those Joint Commission–accredited hospitals that are committed to providing integrated, coordinated and patient-centered care for mothers and their newborns.
“To be the only hospital in Delaware with this certification is not only an honor, but a reflection of our commitment to providing the highest-quality care to our patients,” said Dianne Nau, Director of Women’s Health at Saint Francis Healthcare. “We are proud to be a center of excellence for perinatal care with a multidisciplinary team serving the community and patients while supporting our mission.”
Saint Francis underwent a rigorous onsite review to assess its compliance with certification standards for perinatal care. The Joint Commission evaluated the hospital’s perinatal services on numerous requirements, including available patient education and information about perinatal care, early identification of high-risk pregnancies and birth, management of mothers’ and newborns’ risks at a level corresponding to the program’s capabilities, and integrated, coordinated patient-centered care that starts with prenatal and continues through postpartum care.
“Perinatal Care Certification recognizes an organization’s commitment to healthy mothers and healthy babies,” said Wendi Roberts, RN, BA, MS, CLNC, executive director, Certification Programs, The Joint Commission. “With this certification, healthcare providers have an unparalleled advantage when it comes to preparing mothers for labor and delivery, and are also able to support them if complications arise.”
Saint Francis Healthcare, a part of Trinity Health, operates Delaware’s only Catholic hospital serving Wilmington and Northern New Castle County since 1924. Services provided include Partners in CardioVascular Health and Cardiovascular Services, 24-hour Emergency Services, Ambulance Service, Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence, the da Vinci™ Surgical System, Gastroenterology Services, Hematology-Oncology Services, Minimally Invasive Surgery Center, Advanced Wound Center, Imaging Services, Sleep/Neurodiagnostics Center, Home Care, Outpatient Physical Therapy, Comprehensive Women’s Health Services and three community outreach programs.
