Saint Jude Retreats Discusses College Drinking and Addiction on BlogTalkRadio Show
Amsterdam, NY (PRWEB) October 29, 2013 -- The Saint Jude Retreats Program is excited to announce that as of today Tuesday, October 29, 2013 the Saint Jude Retreats Radio’s second show is live and discusses the issue of college drinking, the idea around cultural addiction and ways to speak to a love one if they have a substance use problem.
Host Executive Director Michelle Dunbar, will discuss the problems and solutions of college drinking with special guest Dr. David J Hanson, proclaimed author and alcohol addiction prevention enthusiast. The Saint Jude Retreats program declares that addiction is a choice and provides substance users a platform to change their own lives, leaving substance use behind them.
Throughout this episode, Dunbar discusses some trending topics that have appeared recently in the news such as the true addictive components of Oreos as compared to illicit drugs. Dunbar quotes, “I get hopeful that maybe we are entering into the realm of common sense, and then I read stories on CBS such as a study that Oreos may be as addictive as cocaine and morphine. I think that is the message that we are all given, that these are tempting, delicious and we don’t have control or power over how much we consume, when in reality we have the power to only eat one or two Oreos.”
During the interview portion of the show, guest Dr. David J Hanson, Professor Emeritus of Potsdam University of New York discuses that the perceptions of college drinking may cause more harm than good and actually perpetuates binge drinking. Throughout the interview he also offers advice to parents that are preparing their teens to go off to college.
Hanson quotes, “It’s important to let your children know this fact about alcohol: Virtually all college students think that other college students are drinking more and drinking more often than they really are. Because of these misconceptions each individual student tends to wants to drink up to that imagined average, and what we find then is that most college students in reality drink more than they prefer and more often than they prefer.”
The Saint Jude Retreats Radio show is now live to be listened to or downloaded.
