Saint Jude Retreats Executive Director Interviews For Huffington Post Article
New York (PRWEB) September 20, 2013 -- The Saint Jude Retreats is happy to report that Michelle Dunbar, Executive Director has been published in the Huffington Post, for an interview she recently did with Shasta Nelson, M.Div. The interview is in regards to over-medicating with prescription pills and the stigma around them especially in regards to women today. Saint Jude Retreat's alternative program to drug treatment has helped saved thousands of lives through its innovative freedom model.
The Huffington Post interview covers several topics such as interventions, how to approach a friend in regards to a potential drug or alcohol problem, and signs of over medicating or heavy pill use. In the interview when Dunbar is asked how to approach a friend who may be struggling with drug or alcohol use, she admits it can be a touchy subject.
Dunbar states in the interview, “This can be a very difficult subject to broach with anyone, but can be especially troublesome with a close friend. The best approach to take is one of concern. Be careful not to judge or jump to conclusions. Do not bring up the drug use, but instead empathize with her about the troubles she's experiencing in her life with her work and family.”
Shasta Nelson is pleased with how the interview came out. Nelson quotes, “It's certainly important to talk about healthy friendships, but we also need to be very thoughtful about recognizing that whenever you're in relationship with humans-- we're bound to bump into struggles and crisis. I so appreciate Michelle's expertise in helping women think through the best ways to help our friends through one of life's very real issues such as drug or alcohol use."
Dunbar comments on her recent interview, “It’s very important for people to understand how to approach these topics with a friend. You want to make sure that you carefully mention it without accusing. This could ruin a friendship and make someone close off about their struggles with substance use. Prescription drug use is a very real issue today, but like any habit, it can be reversed, stopped and changed. Having a close friend’s support and understanding can make all the difference. “
Shasta Nelson is the CEO of GirlFriendCircles.com a female friendship matching site, and the author of Friendships Don't Just Happen!
