Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota Taps Former U.S. Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman, Jr. for Keynote Address at 2016 Hendrickson Forum
MINNEAPOLIS, MN (PRWEB) December 09, 2015 -- Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota (http://www.smumn.edu) announced today that its 2016 Hendrickson Forum will feature former U.S. Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman, Jr. The April 20, 2016 event, “Global Leadership: Our Future With China” is presented by Saint Mary’s Hendrickson Institute for Ethical Leadership.
“We’re delighted to have someone of Ambassador Huntsman’s caliber to share an insider’s perspective on global events and America’s relationship with China and its economic impact,” said Scott McMahon, executive director, Hendrickson Institute for Ethical Leadership. “This subject is of vital interest to organizations that have trade relationships to China, and also to our students who will live and compete in a global economy.”
Huntsman has ground experience working in China as U.S. Ambassador from 2009 to 2011 and is currently chairman of the Atlantic Council. He began his career in public service as a staff assistant to President Ronald Reagan. He has since served presidents George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama in positions including ambassador to Singapore and deputy assistant secretary of commerce for Asia. As the youngest American diplomatic mission leader in a century, he launched global trade negotiations and assisted with the accession of China and Taiwan into the World Trade Organization.
Twice elected as Utah’s governor, Huntsman brought about strong economic reforms, tripled the state’s rainy day fund, and helped bring unemployment rates to historic lows. During his tenure, Utah was named the best-managed state in America and best state in which to do business.
In addition to chairing the Atlantic Council, Huntsman is co-founder and honorary co-chair of No Labels (http://www.nolabels.org) and serves on the boards of Ford Motor Co., Caterpillar Corp., Chevron Corp., Huntsman Corp., the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation, and the University of Pennsylvania. Huntsman will share his experiences working with China’s government and business leaders and his views on key political and economic concerns.
This luncheon event will be held Wednesday, April 20, 11:30 a.m.–1:15 p.m., with check-in and networking beginning at 11 a.m., at the Saint Mary’s University Center on the Saint Mary’s University Twin Cities Campus on Park Avenue in Minneapolis. The event is open to the public and general admission tickets are $50 per person, which includes lunch. Advance registration is required. More information and online registration is available at: http://www.smumn.edu/HendricksonForum.
“Students will have an opportunity outside of the luncheon to exchange ideas with Huntsman,” said McMahon. “Our academic programs—undergraduate and graduate— present students with a global view on key business and social issues; we see this day as an extension of that curriculum.”
The program also includes a presentation of the Hendrickson Medal for Ethical Leadership. The recipient of that award, given by the Hendrickson Institute, will be announced at a later date.
