SamanMedia Produces New Documentary Film Told Through the Voices of Iran's Revolutionary Generation

Saman Yaghmai-Aledavoud, best known for his film, "$lowdown", starring "Argo" actor Ali Saam, unveils his latest work on a documentary film exploring the reach of the 1979 Islamic Revolution into one unique Iranian high school, and its compelling connection to the United States.
Alam High School, once a highly regarded school in the conservative city of Mashhad, Iran, was transformed by the Revolution into a detention center and prison for political dissidents. The film, Alam High School, depicts the lives of high school students who were once insulated from the changing and increasingly hostile climate by the walls of their school. Their feelings of security are quickly shattered when the walls are penetrated and their school becomes the source of their detention. These students’ transformations are viewed through their deep connections with the American teachers who opened their eyes, minds, and hearts to both their own culture and the world around them.
"Alam High School explores the impact of the Iranian Revolution like never before. This film tells the compelling story of the bright, youthful minds of Iran which were forever changed by their circumstances," says Houtan Yaghmai, producer of Alam High School and Chief Executive Officer of SamanMedia. The story is especially meaningful for the film’s director. "This documentary gives a voice to a generation that has not had a chance to tell their story," he says. "I was born in Iran after the Revolution, and as a product of that time, I have always been intrigued about what Iran was like during the Shah’s rule, how the Revolution came to be, and what it accomplished or relinquished. I am exploring all of these curiosities in Alam High School through the former students of this elite school who experienced it all."
From stories of innocence and youth to harrowing stories of detention and abuse, Alam’s shift parallels the transformation of Iran which forced its people to confront new realities.
Alam High School is currently in production and is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year with plans to premiere in 2015.
