San Diego State University Offers Students the Chance to Embark on a Career in Health Care Field
San Diego, Calif. (PRWEB) January 29, 2015 -- San Diego State University offers students the opportunity to enroll in both online and classroom certificate courses in the health care field, which has eight of the top 20 fastest-growing professions, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
As of the latest data in summer 2014, the BLS reports health care employment grew for 121 consecutive months, dating back to 2003. This means that even throughout the Great Recession, the health care industry not only held steady, but thrived.
Through its College of Extended Studies, SDSU offers year-round online courses in EKG Technician, Dialysis Technician, and Nutrition for Optimal Health, Wellness, and Sports. Students may register at any time.
Classroom courses include Clinical Medical Assistant (starts Feb. 24), Pharmacy Technician (starts March 2), EKG Technician (starts March 3), and Medical Billing and Coding + Medical Terminology (starts March 3). Students must register by the class start date.
These are accelerated courses that prepare students for state certification exams. The Clinical Medical Assistant course also includes an externship opportunity.
“When I see a teacher who is passionate and will go beyond to help his students to learn, I become more interested. Our teacher gave us all strength and inspired us to continue on this course.” said Claire Perlick, a former student in Medical Billing & Coding + Medical Terminology.
Robert Aniba, a former student in the EKG Technician program, added there is a diverse environment for students.
“There was a good mix of people in the class to learn and study with,” he said. “There were people who were already doing the job and just trying to improve themselves by getting the EKG certificate, and there were people like me who want to get into the field. It was a good mix and a good instructor.”
Most of the SDSU health care certificate programs are approved for Military Spouse and Workforce Partnership benefits.
SDSU's College of Extended Studies reaches out to San Diego, the nation, and the world with a wide variety of lifelong learning opportunities, and more than 50 certificate programs for career advancement. Topics range from contract management, construction, and craft beer, to grant writing, marketing, and human resources. And many programs are available online.
