San Francisco Cosmetic Dentist, Dr. Ben Amini, Comments on the Use of Painless Dental Lasers
SAN FRANCISCO (PRWEB) December 18, 2017 -- Tooth decay is a common dental problem that has many far-reaching complications ranging from infection to tooth loss. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that more than 90 percent of American adults have cavities. Until now, preventing tooth decay required good dental hygiene, a healthy diet and regular dental care. Today, there may be another option: laser dentistry. San Francisco cosmetic dentist, Dr. Ben Amini, comments on the use of painless dental lasers to prevent dental cavities.
Dental lasers have been used in a variety of soft and hard tissue applications, including:
• Treat cold sores and canker sores
• Whiten teeth
• Reshape gum tissue
• Reduce gum sensitivity
• Prepare teeth for dental fillings
When a laser is used instead of a scalpel or a dental drill, procedures often require less anesthesia, and bleeding is minimized. There is less risk of bleeding or damage to surrounding tissue and a reduced risk of post-procedure complications. This includes patients who are taking blood thinners or Aspirin.
“During a clinical study at UCSF, researchers discovered that dental lasers could also help strengthen dental enamel and make it more acid-resistant. The heat from the laser changes the top layer of tooth enamel structure from the usual carbonated hydroxyapatite to hydroxyapatite, which is more resistant to acid produced by bacteria,” says Dr. Amini, the founder of CitiDent.
“Short-pulsed carbon dioxide lasers can change the chemical make-up of the enamel, and when used with Prescription fluoride treatments, they might even be able to reverse early decay.”
The next step is to seek Food and Drug Administration approval for using the short-pulsed carbon dioxide laser in cavity prevention. Dr. Amini and the CitiDent Orthodontic team offer accelerated orthodontics and the use of laser with orthodontic braces will help prevent tooth decay while going through treatment. Dr. Amini’s preventive philosophy and minimally invasive dentistry help patients keep their teeth longer in their life.
“There are probably less than 10% of dentists who currently use lasers in their practices, and I am hoping with more companies offering laser technology and more main stream research, more dentists will be able to offer this great technology to their patients.” said Dr. Amini.
