San Francisco Travel Association’s Statement on Supreme Court’s Decision on Right to Same Sex Marriage
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) June 26, 2015 -- Joe D’Alessandro, president and CEO of the San Francisco Travel Association, released the following statement on the decision by the Supreme Court of the United States that the Constitution guarantees a nationwide right to same-sex marriage:
“Today, our city is filled with joy. We invite everyone to come and celebrate the 45th annual Pride Celebration in San Francisco this weekend in the city where it all began.
“This decision is the culmination of a struggle that began in San Francisco on Feb. 12, 2004 when then-Mayor Gavin Newsom began issuing same-sex marriages licenses at City Hall,” D’Alessandro continued. “My husband and I will be celebrating this weekend with the thousands of people who will come to San Francisco to share in this historic moment.”
This year’s Pride Celebration will be even more festive than usual, when the whole city of San Francisco comes alive with a burst of music, dancing and excitement on the last weekend of June.
Hundreds of thousands of people will line Market Street and gather for the annual downtown parade and festival making it the largest LGBT celebration in the country. The two-day bash takes place in front of City Hall at Civic Center Plaza — the same spot where Harvey Milk addressed the crowd in 1978 during "Gay Freedom Day."
