San Francisco Zoo Sued for Alleged Gender Discrimination
SAN FRANCISCO (PRWEB) November 29, 2017 -- A female zoo worker has filed suit against the San Francisco Zoo, alleging she discovered that a male coworker was earning more money for doing the same work.
Rosa (“Rose”) Bungenstock, a Zoo employee, alleges that she and a male worker performed the same dispatch and ranger duties, yet Bungenstock was paid less than her male counterpart received.
Bungenstock’s attorneys, James Quadra and Becca Coll of Quadra & Coll, LLP, allege in the lawsuit that the Zoo not only paid Bungenstock less for the same work, but retaliated against Bungenstock when she complained about the wage discrimination. The lawsuit alleges that after she complained, the Zoo stripped Bungenstock of her Ranger duties and assigned her a less desirable schedule.
The lawsuit alleges that Zoo Rangers interact with the public, assist school groups, patrol the Zoo, and help with calls regarding lost children. Bungenstock alleges that since she complained, she is no longer permitted on public Zoo grounds while working.
The lawsuit is pending in San Francisco Superior Court, Bungenstock v. San Francisco Zoological Society, Case No. CGC-17-562662.
