Santa Barbara's First James Beard Celebrity Chef Tour Dinner To Celebrate Friendship of Julia Child & James Beard
Santa Barbara, CA (PRWEB) September 19, 2016 -- An incredible line-up of chefs is heading to Santa Barbara, CA for the city’s first James Beard Celebrity Chef Tour Dinner on Monday, November 21st. The “Julia & James Dinner Celebration,” honoring James Beard and Julia Child, will be hosted at Santa Barbara’s Fess Parker – A Doubletree by Hilton Resort and will feature seven delectable courses of haute cuisine prepared by an array of celebrated international chefs. Tickets are available here:
The James Beard Foundation's Celebrity Chef Tour dinner series brings a taste of what happens at the James Beard House in New York City to more than 20 cities across the country each year. It was Julia Child who, following James Beard’s death in 1985, first proposed starting a foundation and saving his home as a center for the American culinary community. "And since Santa Barbara considers Julia Child one of it's own,” explains Event Co-Producers Laurie Kirby and Stuart MacNaught, "it seemed appropriate for the Santa Barbara dinner to honor the collaborative relationship of James Beard and Julia Child."
In honor of Ms. Child’s penchant for French cooking, the evening's chefs include celebrated Parisian Chef Gilles Epié and LA-based French Chef Christophe Émé.
Gilles Epié, youngest ever Michelin Starred chef, was voted Best New Chef by Food & Wine Magazine in 1996 for L’Orangerie in LA and owns currently Citrus Etoile in Paris (with his wife Elizabeth), which has been voted Top 100 Restaurants in the World. Christophe Émé, executive chef and former owner of Ortolan Restaurant in LA, is making quite a mark on the French dining scene in Southern California. He’s a talented young chef who has cultivated his skills at some of the finest restaurants in the world.
Another of the evening’s accomplished chefs, Cat Cora, credits Child as having been her mentor. Manhattan Beach Chef David Lefevre and The Fess Parker Doubletree Resort Executive Chef Kirk DeLong round out the current roster of chefs, although two more celebrity chefs will be announced in the coming weeks.
Cat Cora is the first Female Iron Chef, author of five bestselling books, Restaurateur, and TV host on Bravo and Food Network shows. David LeFevre has been featured on such shows as The Cooking Channel’s Road Show with G. Garvin and Unique Eats, and made regular appearances as a judge on FOX’s Hell’s Kitchen and Master Chef. Kirk DeLong graduated from the California Culinary Academy-San Francisco in 1998 with a degree in Culinary Arts. As Executive Chef at the Fess Parker Doubletree Resort, he oversees all aspects of food preparation and presentation throughout the Resort: including Rodney’s Steakhouse—a Zagat-award winning restaurant. The “Julia & James Dinner Celebration” will occur on the closing night of a three-day conference, FestForums, a convergence of Festival producers - representing hundreds of Food & Beverage Festivals (such as Pebble Beach Food & Wine Festival, NYC Food & Wine Festival, etc.), Music Festivals (such as Coachella, Glastonbury, etc.) and Film Festivals (such as Tribeca Film Festival, San Francisco International Film Festival, etc.). See FestForums.com for event details.
Tickets for the dinner are limited, and priced at $230.00 inclusive of tax and tip. Tables of ten are specially priced at $2,000. Founded in 1986, the James Beard Foundation celebrates, nurtures, and honors America's diverse culinary heritage through programs that educate and inspire. A cookbook author and teacher with an encyclopedic knowledge about food, the late James Beard was a champion of American cuisine. He helped educate and mentor generations of professional chefs and food enthusiasts, instilling in them the value of wholesome, healthful, and delicious food. Today JBF continues in the same spirit by administering a number of diverse programs that include educational initiatives, food industry awards, scholarships for culinary students, publications, chef advocacy training, and thought-leader convening. The Foundation also maintains the historic James Beard House in New York City’s Greenwich Village as a “performance space” for visiting chefs. For more information, please visit jamesbeard.org. Get food news, recipes, and more at the James Beard Foundation’s blog. Follow the James Beard Foundation on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
The Santa Barbara dinner in November begins at 7pm with a cocktail reception followed by a one-night-only, multi-course dinner (with premium wine pairings), and ending with a decadent dessert course and a Q&A session with the evening's chefs. It will be a culinary experience that you won’t want to miss!
