Santa Connection Brings Virtual Santa Visit to UC Davis Children’s Hospital
Valencia, CA (PRWEB) December 20, 2013 -- Millions of children across the U.S. spend countless hours on their Christmas wish list, ready for a visit with Santa Claus at their local mall. But what about the children who are hospitalized this holiday season? For those children, Santa was beamed in over-interactive high-definition video conferencing directly from the North Pole, bringing the magic of Christmas to a large screen in the hospital playroom, and for those who didn’t feel well enough to leave their rooms – to mobile devices enabled with the Cisco Jabber App.
This year UC Davis Children’s hospital joined with Cisco, along with their partner Nexus, in their annual Santa Connection Program, which Cisco developed seven years ago to provide children and their families a bit of holiday cheer and happiness during their hospital stay.
The most unique aspect about the “virtual visit” is that with a sterilized iPad Santa could gain access to areas he typically wouldn’t be able to go - which allowed the kids to see Santa’s full suit and beard without requiring him to put on a gown, face mask, and gloves.
“I am so grateful to have been a part of this program”, said Meghan Roberts, Collaboration BTS for Nexus. “It was incredibly moving to see how excited the children were to share their Christmas wishes with Santa. They seemed to be comfortable and forthcoming because they were able to talk to Santa from their familiar environment as opposed to a busy mall. I think it really meant something to the kids that Santa was able to visit with each of them to be sure they were not overlooked despite being in the hospital this holiday season.”
