Santa Fe Indian Market Opens Call for Galleries and Artists for Indian Market Edge
Santa Fe, New Mexico (PRWEB) June 04, 2015 -- Santa Fe Indian Market announces it is expanding this year’s programming with the addition of a new contemporary art show: Indian Market Edge, which will be held at the Santa Fe Convention Center during the 2015 market. Indian Market Edge will focus on contemporary Native Art, showcasing art forms that do not fit into the traditional Santa Fe Indian Market categories.
Indian Market Edge begins Thursday, August 20th, with a private preview and runs through Sunday, August 23. Thursday night’s private preview reception and opening will be followed by a Native Peoples Magazine sponsored kickoff party, featuring some of Indian Country’s best and emerging musical talent. The kickoff dance party is free and open to the public.
“Contemporary artwork is a part of each tribes’ cultural evolution and allows artists to remain fresh and relevant in our time,” said Santa Fe Indian Market's chief operating officer, Dallin Maybee. “We are excited to expand the world’s largest Indian Market, while keeping the highest standards and recognizing the important role of traditional art forms in place. Indian Market is the “Standard” for experiencing traditional and now contemporary Native Art forms, and one of the best places to experience the beauty and fine art of our culture.”
2015 marks Santa Fe Indian Market’s 94th year. The event attracts 150,000 visitors each year to the world’s largest Indian market featuring the work of over 1,000 artists in 10 distinct categories and remains the benchmark for both quality and authentic traditional Native art, offering collectors and buyers an unparalleled experience every third weekend in August.
