Santa Monica College Deploys Mobile Strategy to Increase Enrollment with Modo Labs
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (PRWEB) October 18, 2017 -- Santa Monica College, with an enrollment of over 30,000 students, selected Modo Labs, the leading Higher Ed mobile app company, as their partner in facing the challenges of recruiting and retaining students in a competitive market. Modo Campus™, which is the chosen mobile platform of more than 300 institutions and companies, provides a scalable, highly-personalized, engaging, mobile experience to diverse student bodies, visitors, alumni, and applicants.
Esau Tovar, Dean of Enrollment Services at Santa Monica, said, “Traditional communication methods weren’t effectively reaching students—emails were going unread creating an inbox full of soon to be irrelevant information. Today’s student expects to be reached on mobile. We were immediately impressed by the modern and flexible interface, robust communication platform, and ease of management offered by Modo Campus™. What they offered was years ahead of the other mobile platforms under consideration.”
Proactively deploying mobile technology allows Santa Monica College to address decreasing nationwide trends in enrollment and help students readily access the full breadth of campus offerings. “Most institutions are turning to mobile to create a centralized hub of information on campus and provide timely, relevant communications to students,” said Stewart Elliot, CEO of Modo Labs. “Santa Monica College is leading the way for community colleges across the country by using mobile to boost both college enrollment and degree progression.”
For Santa Monica, embracing a mobile strategy is a way to provide students with the tools to enroll in the institution’s courses and be successful in their academic career. In only a few weeks, the app was downloaded 12,000 times with the course catalog and class schedule gaining the most traffic. Allowing students to register for classes on their phones will make it easier for Santa Monica to get new students started on their college journey and retain returning students.
With user feedback, they also identified other areas where the app could improve the student experience, including campus maps, financial aid deadlines, and full integration with the academic portal. Santa Monica is confident that its mobile strategy will drive enrollment, retention, and completion for years to come.
“In the next year, we’ll be promoting campus events with special event modules, which you can easily switch based on institutional needs, and also getting more departments, like career services, involved,” said Tovar. “The app has already been hugely successful and we’re excited to continue enhancing our mobile offerings with the critical information that students are looking for.”
