Sarah Toney Receives Young Lawyer of the Year Award from Illinois State Bar Association
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) June 26, 2014 -- Chicago Criminal Defense Attorney Sarah Toney was recently honored with the Illinois State Bar Association’s Young Lawyer of the Year Award for the year of 2014. Her selection as a recipient of the award can be seen on the website of the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA).
According to the website, only two young lawyers are selected by the association’s Young Lawyers Division (YLD) for this distinction. In order to be considered for the award, lawyers must be under the age of 36 and they must be in good standing with the ISBA. In their nominations for Attorney Toney, fellow lawyers and bar members noted her extensive involvement and leadership within the state bar association, as well as her remarkable professional accomplishments. Attorney Toney was presented with her award on June 20, 2014.
In their nomination letters, Attorney Toney’s nominators described her as an ISBA member who regularly organizes and speaks at events, and assists other bar members in building stronger connections with each other. One nominator described Attorney Toney as the most involved ISBA member that she personally knows, while the other nominator explained how the lawyer is quick to step up and volunteer for major responsibilities when assistance is needed. According to the second nominator, Attorney Toney not only volunteered to serve as Co-Chair for an important YLD charity fundraiser when the need arose, but she has also been instrumental in teaching other ISBA members how they can take advantage of social media as lawyers.
Attorney Toney’s nominators commended her for her work as Co-Chair of the ISBA YLD Social Committee, which organizes events that allow young and new lawyers to establish stronger roots within the organization. As for her professional accomplishments, the nominators listed Attorney Toney’s published articles, CLE speaking engagements, and her achievement of running a successful criminal defense law firm.
Attorney Toney has taken on numerous leadership roles within the ISBA. In addition to serving as a member of the YLD Council, she is also a member of the ISBA Assembly, the Traffic Laws and Courts Section Council, the Law Office Management and Economics Section Council, and the Illinois Lawyers’ Political Action Committee (LAWPAC). Furthermore, she has been included in the Super Lawyers® Rising Stars℠ list for five years in row and has received a long list of other professional honors and awards. Attorney Toney also serves as an adjunct professor at Loyola University of Chicago School of Law.
