Sasha Enegren Doctorial Recital - Six Original Pieces for the Bassoon
New York, NY (PRWEB) January 29, 2014 -- A Doctoral recital of entirely new works for bassoon, four of which are world premieres and two of which are concertos with orchestra, will be performed at Manhattan School of Music in Greenfield Hall, Tuesday, January 28, at 6:30 PM by bassoonist Sasha Gee Enegren.
This program includes small chamber ensembles, solo sonatas, and two concertos with orchestra. The repertoire is also diverse, ranging from a vivacious Sonata for Bassoon and Piano by Raphael Fusco, to an "emotionally stunning" sonata by Nils Vigeland to the technically complex work, "This Time", Concerto for Bassoon and Orchestra by Steven Burke. There is truly something for everyone in the program.
"The program of so many new works requires physical stamina," Enegren says, who considers her musicianship discipline comparable to that of an athlete in training. "The real star of the performance is the music. These composers have made a significant contribution to bassoon literature with these works. I am fortunate that these talented composers trust me to introduce their work to the public."
This program relates to Enegren's doctoral dissertation, which focuses on new music for the bassoon.
Other composers whose work Enegren will perform include Nils Vigeland, "Ritual", bassoon and piano; Susan Borwick, "Spirit", bassoon and piano; Kyle Werner, "Duet for English Horn and Bassoon," and Max Grafe "Janus Ponders the Cosmos."
Enegren, who earlier earned her Master's degree from MSM in Orchestral Performance, is a graduate of Wake Forest University and originally from Wichita Kansas.
Greenfield Hall is at Manhattan School of Music, 120 N Claremont. Admission is free.
