Saunders Landscape Supply Urges Customers to Resurface Gravel Driveways Before Winter Arrives
Chantilly, VA (PRWEB) November 22, 2014 -- Saunders Landscape Supply is encouraging its customers throughout Virginia and Maryland to resurface their gravel driveways as soon as possible in order to avoid major repairs in the spring. Due to the cold, wet conditions of last year's winter, many homeowners were unable to fill their driveways throughout the winter months. Homeowners should have their gravel driveways filled at least once a year, and tackling this project during November can help to ensure that homeowners don't miss their opportunity.
Saunders Landscape Supply carries two different types of gravel for driveways: 57 Bluestone and 21 A. Homes that are at a high risk of erosion and runoff problems can benefit from 57 Bluestone because of its ability to improve drainage. This gravel is made up of three quarter inch pieces of stone that maximize drainage from rain runoff. Alternatively, 21 A is made up of a mixture of 57 Bluestone and stone dust. Since the particles are finer, it can be easily compacted and is closer in resemblance and function to an asphalt driveway. Whichever type of gravel homeowners prefer, Saunders Landscape Supply recommends applying a three-inch layer to prevent snow plows and other vehicles from wearing down the stones throughout the course of the winter.
If current winter weather predictions hold true, this winter is shaping up to be another freezing cold and snowy one. These conditions can lead to significant damage for gravel driveways, including the creation of major potholes. As damages accumulate over the long winter season, necessary repairs can be extensive and expensive come spring.
"Last year was a very wet, prolonged and cold winter, therefore there weren't many opportunities for homeowners to rejuvenate driveways during the season," said Donald Saunders, President of Saunders Landscape Supply. "We're encouraging people to be more prepared ahead of time, because the likelihood of this winter being similar to last year is looking promising."
Taking a proactive approach to protecting gravel driveways over the winter can help homeowners avoid costly repairs later down the road, which is why Saunders Landscape Supply recommends that its customers act now.
