Savor the Avenue, in Delray Beach, Serves 1015 Guests at the Longest Dining Table in South Florida On the Famed Atlantic Avenue
Delray Beach, Florida (PRWEB) April 02, 2014 -- The Delray Beach culinary tradition, continued on Thursday, March 27, 2014 on East Atlantic Avenue. This event was made possible by the Delray Beach Magazine’s partnership with the Delray Beach Downtown Development Authority (DDA), along with 16 of Downtown Delray’s amazing restaurants within the DDA district. Each restaurant served a specially designed four course dinner paired with select wines donated from area distributors and served to guests on elaborately decorated tables, lining the center of Delray Beach Atlantic Avenue.
For the sixth year in a row, Savor the Avenue has sold out within three weeks of opening reservations and has grown to be one of the most anticipated, premier, dining events for the local and tourist community. This year 45% of the attendees were returning guests, attending Savor the Avenue at least one other time and 40% of attendees were visitors. “We look forward to this event every year, and each year we are even more impressed by the restaurants and event presentations,” expresses John Hawk, local Delray Beach resident.
With Steve Weagle, WPTV Channel 5 Weatherman, raising his champagne glass 30 feet in the air over Atlantic Avenue, the sixth annual Savor the Avenue was off to a beautiful start. This year’s Table Décor Contest winners were awarded to three restaurants, Taverna Opa winning third place, 32 East placing 2nd, and Salt 7 winning First Place for the second year in a row. Following the toast, the wait staff began serving over 1000 guests while music played throughout the five blocks.
“After being a part of this event for 6 years in a row, it's always a HUGE success. At Cabana, we have heard nothing but praises on how well this event is put on. I look forward to being a part of Savor The Avenue next year,” says Mario Amaya, General Manager, Cabana El Ray.
This year, Patricia Maguire, local artist, donated an original painting of Savor the Avenue that was painted last year, to Delray Beach Magazine and the DDA to be raffled off at the event. The monies raised would be donated to the Delray Beach Beautification Project. “We are so pleased to have raised over $3,500 from both raffle ticket sales, poster sales, and restaurant donations that will be given to the City,” expresses Laura Simon, Associate Director, DDA. The winner of this incredible painting is a local Delray Beach resident, Shelia O’Boyle, who purchased the winning ticket.
Each year, the Delray Beach DDA, Delray Beach & Boca Magazine, and the many restaurants, which participate, strive to improve the quality of the event as well as enhance the experience for the attendees; this year was no exception.
This year ‘s participating restaurants are: 32 East, 50 Ocean, Cabana el Rey, Caffe Luna Rosa, City Oyster & Sushi Bar, Cut 432, Lemongrass, Prime, Rack’s Fish House & Oyster Bar, Salt 7, Solita Delray, Sundy House, Taverna Opa, The Office, Tryst, and Vic & Angelo’s.
