Savvy Ladies and Founder Stacy Francis Capture Three Major Honors for Pro Bono Financial Planning

New York City, NY (PRWEB) September 20, 2013 -- In August, Savvy Ladies, a nonprofit organization focused on bringing free financial planning to women, received top honors for its contributions to financial planning education from Financial Planning magazine and The Financial Planning Association (FPA). The accolades came in the wake of CNNMoney naming Savvy Ladies Founder Stacy Francis a “Money Hero” in March.

  • Stacy was named a Winner of Financial Planning’s “Pro Bono Award.” The magazine noted that Savvy Ladies has helped more than 10,000 women better manage their finances, including Denise Grant, who first came to Savvy Ladies when she was $35,000 in debt. Now debt-free, Denise told the magazine, “Savvy Ladies provides me with a safe place to learn and to try things out. I keep coming because they keep me on track.”

 

  • Savvy Ladies received a “Heart of Financial Planning Award” from the FPA, America’s largest membership organization for CFP professionals. The Association cited Savvy Ladies’ “programs and services… that are free to women who can’t afford to have their own financial planner.”
  • In featuring Stacy, Money magazine wrote: “Via classes, workbooks, and a hotline, business people and other volunteers at the New York nonprofit have taught women – ranging in age from their twenties to their sixties -- money skills they need to gain more control over their lives.”

Financial Planning and Money both cited the genesis of Savvy Ladies: Stacy’s grandmother remained in a decades-long abusive marriage for fear that divorce would render her a “bag lady” despite her job as a bookkeeper.

“I am very grateful for this recognition and the tremendous efforts of the Savvy Ladies team that has made it possible,” said Stacy. “We are all the more grateful to our constituents. Any success Savvy Ladies achieves stems from the inspiration we draw from thousands of fantastic women who are determined to control their own destinies and forge richer, more rewarding lives.”
