Saybrook University Announces Next President
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) June 24, 2014 -- Saybrook University, the global leader in Humanistic education, is thrilled to announce the appointment of Dr. Nathan Long as its next president.
Dr. Long, who comes to California after an extremely successful tenure as the President of Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences in Cincinnati, Ohio, was unanimously selected by Saybrook’s Board of Trustees. Saybrook’s board expressed admiration for Long’s proven commitment to preserving a human presence in innovative higher education.
"In Dr. Long we found the qualities we were searching for,” said Renee Levi, Chair of Saybrook’s Board of Trustees. “Commitment to Saybrook's humanistic mission, the vision to imagine our expanded role in the world, proven academic and business experience, and a collaborative approach to leadership. We welcome Nathan into our community and look forward to what we all can do together in the future."
Dr. Long said he is excited by the opportunity because he sees institutions like Saybrook as setting a new bar for higher education to drive positive social change.
“Saybrook is uniquely positioned, because of its mission and history, to serve as a model – a beacon, really – for innovation in higher education,” Long said. “For 40 years it’s been one of the leaders in distance learning, but always insisted that online education retain a strong in-person component. That combination of a vital personal connection with current technology is a crucial example of how traditional education and 21st century innovation can work together to build a better world.”
Added Long: “In the last several years Saybrook has seen significant growth in enrollment. Now, the time is ripe for Saybrook to expand its footprint, geographically and on-line; to find new ways for students and faculty leverage their scholarship and practice with goal of positively impacting the communities in which we live, learn, and work.”
Saybrook has recently received approval to launch pioneering new programs such as an MS degree in Integrative and Functional Nutrition, and a MA in Management focusing on virtual, cross-cultural, teams. In 2014, Saybrook also announced a partnership with the TCS Education System, an innovative network of not-for-profit universities devoted to using education for social change. This affiliation offers Saybrook additional expertise and resources to support its mission – and opportunities to help transform the world.
Dr. Long will begin his tenure at Saybrook on August 1, and spend his first month working with Dr. Mark Schulman, Saybrook’s outgoing president, who will take an executive position at TCS ES beginning September 1.
Dr. Long and his family are looking forward to settling in the Bay Area over the coming months, and firmly rooting themselves in the local community.
