Saybrook University Announces PhD Focusing on Humane Education
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) October 24, 2013 -- Humanity’s step into the 21st century has been accompanied by global problems in need of new solutions: better approaches to spreading human rights in a time of scarce resources, an increased understanding of environmental stewardship, and new strategies to create just and healthy societies around the world.
Most people want to address these challenges, solve these problems, but don’t know how. An education designed to get a job and live the way we already do doesn’t provide anyone with the tools needed to be more effective citizens of the 21st century.
But it doesn't have to be that way.
A new PhD in Organizational Systems, specializing in Humane Education from Saybrook University, will provide a new generation of educational leaders with a lens, a body of knowledge, and a set of tools and strategies to help their students address these interconnected problems.
By transforming education and approaches to teaching, they can change the world. This PhD will be the only one of its kind in the United States, and is the result of a collaboration between Saybrook University, Valparaiso University, and the Institute for Humane Education (IHE), a non-profit leader and pioneer in the field of Humane Education.
“This is an exciting new program for Saybrook that enables us to bring our understanding of organizational systems and leadership to the challenge of transforming education,” said Dr. Nancy Southern, chair of Saybrook’s School of Organizational Leadership and Transformation. “Students drawn to the program will include teachers and administrators in K-12 public and private schools, people who are on the front lines of educating our children.“
Saybrook is now accepting applications for this new specialized PhD for the Spring 2014 and Fall 2014 semesters. The program follows Saybrook’s unique “hybrid” learning model, combining online coursework with intensive, in-person seminars, and offers students the best of both worlds: they get the networking and experiential benefits of meetings faculty and peers face-to-face, without needing to relocate or put their careers on hold.
