Scaleups from 16 countries are finalists in prestigious European digital competition
Brussels, Belgium (PRWEB UK) 4 October 2016 -- A tablet device for blind people. Smart Glasses that let experts guide technicians from a distance. A real-time information system that turns any production plant into a digital smart factory. These are just three out of 44 highly innovative digital technologies that have been selected to compete in the EIT Digital Challenge finals.
The scaleups behind these technologies come from 16 different countries, including eleven companies from the UK, five from France and four from Spain. Average expected 2016 revenue of the is € 640,000, average team size is 13, average funds raised to date is € 700,000, and 57% have female founders/co-founders. A total of 234 startups from 25 EU countries had applied in the following five categories: Digital Industry, Digital Cities, Digital Wellbeing, Digital Infrastructure and Digital Finance.

"We are again thrilled with the quality lineup in our Challenge finals. The average team size and revenues demonstrate these startups are ready to scale up internationally and become global Scaleups with our support,” says Dolf Wittkamper, Head of the EIT Digital Accelerator.
The finalists will compete in five pitch events that take place in five different cities across Europe end of November. Their goal: to achieve international growth support by Europe’s leading open innovation network, EIT Digital.
In each category, three startups will be selected and awarded at the following final events:
• November 21, 2016 – Stockholm – Digital Infrastructure
• November 24, 2016 – Eindhoven – Digital Wellbeing
• November 28, 2016 – London – Digital Finance
• November 29, 2016 – Paris – Digital Cities
• November 30, 2016 – Helsinki – Digital Industry
