Scalock Introduces Peekr, a SaaS Security Scanner for Software Container Images
Tel Aviv, Israel (PRWEB) February 22, 2016 -- Scalock, the leader in scalable security solutions for containerized environments, announced today the release of Peekr™, a free-of-charge software-as-a-service tool for scanning container images, available at https://peekr.scalock.com.
Peekr provides a quick, easy and reliable way to ensure that images are secure by comparing them against a database of 5 million common vulnerability signatures, including language-specific signature in Python, Java, Javascript, PHP and Ruby, in addition to Linux distribution packages (RPM and DEB). The scanner can also be used to scan Docker images on DockerHub, CoreOS Quay, and also supports v1 and v2 private registries.
In addition to scanning images for vulnerability assessment, Peekr relies on Scalock’s Active Container Inspection™ technology to test images in a secure sandbox, looking for any suspicious activity patterns or malicious behavior, such as abnormal use of resources and network port scanning which might otherwise go undetected even in images free from known vulnerabilities.

Users can sign in to Peekr using their Google or GitHub accounts, initially getting ten scans per month, but they can increase this quota by inviting others to use Peekr. When a new user accepts a referral, five additional scans will be added to both parties’ monthly quota.

The company’s comprehensive solution is currently in private beta, and Peekr represents a small subset of the capabilities that Scalock will provide upon general availability.
