SCCU Launches ThumbuddyCares Campaign To Prevent Distracted Driving
Melbourne, FL (PRWEB) September 22, 2016 -- Dedicated to protecting the members they serve in all aspects of their financial lives, Space Coast Credit Union is now inviting those same members to join in protecting their loved ones behind the wheel.
Leveraging the power and sharing capabilities of social media, SCCU’s new ThumbuddyCares campaign aims to spread awareness of the dangers of texting while driving through one simple concept – for each pledge made to the campaign now through December 31, the credit union will make a donation to a special college scholarship program dedicated to teaching teens safe driving habits.
Members and non-members alike can pledge to and support the ThumbuddyCares campaign by uploading their own “thumbs up” photo using the custom app that displays the hashtag #thumbuddycares along with a pre-scripted “Don’t Text and Drive” message. After uploading their photo, participants can choose to post it to their Facebook or Twitter accounts to show followers and friends they are taking a stand against distracted driving. Participants will also be given the option to download their photo, allowing them to share it on other social media platforms like Instagram if they wish.
SCCU is donating $1 to a scholarship fund for each photo shared using the app between now and December 31, 2016, up to a maximum award of $10,000. Then, next year from January to April 2017, eligible high school seniors across the 14 counties SCCU serves will be invited to submit an essay or video educating other teens about the dangers of distracted driving. The student that provides the most compelling case to convince other teens to not text and drive will be announced in May and awarded the scholarship. The actual scholarship amount will be based on #Thumbuddycares participation. The scholarship fund was started with $1,000 and progress can be monitored on Thumbuddycares.com. The more shares the greater the scholarship award.
“Texting while driving triples your chances of getting into an accident, and Florida is ranked at the top of the list in distracted driving,” said Laura Richard, Vice President of Marketing. “Members’ Watchdog is SCCU’s promise to protect our members. We don’t only want to help our members purchase a vehicle with straightforward and affordable financing, through this campaign we also want to help extend that protection by keeping their loved ones safe on the road.”
You don’t have to be an SCCU member to support the cause! Upload your ThumbuddyCares photo and take the pledge to end distracted driving today at ThumbuddyCares.com.
