Scheidt & Bachmann’s Barrier-Free Automatic Pay Station Meets Recent ADA Guidelines and Saves Parking Operators on Cost

Scheidt & Bachmann’s PKA30-BF automatic pay station model, which was launched in Europe in 2011 and made available also in the U.S., is designed to be “barrier-free (BF)”.
The PKA30-BF provides the same functionality as S&B’s standard PKA30 models. According to the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) requirements by Federal Law, Title III requires that “all ‘new construction’ (construction, modification or alterations) after the effective date of the ADA (approximately July 1992) must be fully compliant with the Americans With Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG).” In order to comply with the ADAAG, “the standard is whether ‘removing barriers’ (typically defined as bringing a condition into compliance with the ADAAG) is readily achievable, defined as ‘...easily accomplished without much difficulty or expense.’"
Previously, operators would have to install separate pay stations mounted on various bases to accommodate all height accessibility requirements. However, the PKA30-BF saves owners the extra cost of installing a separate automatic pay station by now providing one machine that can accommodate both ADA and NON-ADA customers. The renowned Stanford Hospital in Stanford, CA has been the U.S. launch partner for the new design. They recently installed a number of PKA30-BF automatic pay stations, along with a comprehensive S&B revenue control system in its new parking facilities.
