The announcement was made during a ceremony at Marlins Stadium in Miami as part of SCM World’s annual SCM World Live Americas conference.
In its purpose to empower professionals with the capability, commitment and confidence to drive greater positive impact on business performance, SCM World designed the awards to celebrate the most influential and innovative initiatives of the past year.
The winners demonstrated ongoing commitments to delivering outstanding business value and wider positive societal impact through supply chain management. They were selected from nearly 80 different companies from across the globe, and were determined by a distinguished judging panel including more than 30 supply chain, operations and procurement executives from Fortune 500 companies such as Nestle, P&G, Chevron, Grainger, Microsoft, BASF, Revlon, Merck and many more.

Schneider Electric received the Supply Chain Talent Breakthrough of the Year award for its Edison Program and Global Supply Chain Academy that were developed to support a global transformation called the Tailored Supply Chain. These two talent programs educated the entire organization on cross-functional supply chain expertise and leading supply chain capabilities. The initiative reduced customer dissatisfaction on deliveries by 27 percent and raised the company’s service level performance by three points. It also improved the amount of industrial productivity by generating a €340 million ($387 million) contribution per year on average to the company’s performance. Schneider Electric now has a stronger bench of diverse global talent which resulted in the company making LinkedIn’s top 50 “Most InDemand Company” list.
Unilever received SCM World’s Supply Chain Breakthrough award for its cutting edge manufacturing sustainability program it launched in 2008. Unilever’s corporate mission is to double revenue while halving its environmental footprint by 2020. Part of this goal was to reduce waste in manufacturing by 80 percent by 2020. In 2008, the company was sending 140 thousand tons of waste to landfill, but now 242 Unilever factories on six continents are sending zero waste to landfill, a goal they accomplished six years early. Additionally, the sustainability program has delivered €480 million ($546 million) savings and cost avoidance and 1,000 direct and indirect jobs have been created.
