The cofounders came up with the name for the app out of the shear frustration of waiting for deals. “In today’s society, getting a deal on a purchase is one of the most satisfying feelings a person can experience,” said Dumitrean, “We came up with the name Giftme because when using the app during daily shopping ventures, you are basically always giving a gift to yourself.”
Dumitrean and Kravtsov were inspired to create Giftme after discovering that the value of the unused gift cards market. Every year billions of dollars’ worth of gift cards go unused, Giftme buys those gift cards at a discounted rate and then offers them to the users for a discounted rate as well. For example, using Giftme users can buy a gift card for American Eagle that is worth $100 but pay 23% of that.
Currently, there are over 200 of the most popular merchants available on Giftme. To find deals all users need to do is type their favorite merchant into the search bar of the app. The app will display the sale price of the gift card and give the user the option to purchase it and have it delivered instantly onto their smart phones. Users also have the option of selling their unwanted gift cards using the app, the uploaded gift card then goes directly to the Giftme market place.
