Scott’s Marketplace, a Shop-Local Website, Makes Charitable Contribution to Local Families
Scottsdale, Arizona (PRWEB) December 16, 2015 -- Scott’s Marketplace, an e-commerce marketplace where local business owners can sell their products online and consumers can shop local stores for unique products, has participated in multiple charitable events this holiday season.
Scott Curry, founder and CEO of Scott’s Marketplace, said, “Supporting local communities is why Scott’s Marketplace was created, and that's why it was important for us to find ways to give back locally this year.”
Scott’s Marketplace adopted a family of nine through Westwood Primary School, a Title 1 school in Phoenix, Arizona. Westwood Primary allows individuals and businesses to “adopt” a student, along with their family, for the holidays. Title 1, under the No Child Left Behind Act, was first enacted in 1965 and is the federal government’s primary aid program for disadvantaged students.
The “adopt a student” program gives children and their families, who otherwise would not have had a Christmas, a way to enjoy the holidays. The families fill out a form that explains what they need and want and a gift drop-off is coordinated through the school.
The Scott’s Marketplace teams from Arizona, Colorado, and California contributed to a fund for the family of nine that Curry matched, in addition to providing another contribution on behalf of Scott’s Marketplace. The fund went toward toys for the children, and blankets, food, and hygiene supplies for the entire family.
In addition to adopting a family in Arizona, the Scott’s Marketplace team in Illinois organized a donation to two families who will receive three weeks’ worth of groceries through a local non-profit, the Humanitarian Service Project. The Humanitarian Service Project has been serving families in need since 1979 by providing holiday gifts and groceries to those who are living in poverty.
Scott’s Marketplace supports local communities year-round through an accessible e-commerce platform that gives local business owners a simple and affordable way to sell their products online. As the only online marketplace to disallow chains and large retailers from selling products on its site, Scott’s Marketplace levels the playing field for small business owners. In addition, PHOENIX Magazine named Scott's Marketplace ‘Best Local Online Shopping’ site in its ‘Best of the Valley’ picks for 2015.
Shoppers are able to support thousands of local businesses from across the United States on Scott’s Marketplace, giving them an accessible way to shop local anytime, anywhere.
