SCREEN AWARDS 2016, Red Rock Entertainment Back On The Red Carpet
London, England. (PRWEB UK) 2 November 2016 -- Another standout moment in the UK film calendar and another opportunity for Red Rock Entertainment to demonstrate its support for UK creativity. The event was the 2016 Screen Awards, the venue was The Brewery in London, and the date was October 20th.
Our contribution to the gala evening was to sponsor the Specialist Film Campaign of category, won this year by Peccadillo Pictures’ Embrace of the Serpent. Screen International magazine’s annual awards now in their seventh year don’t simply reflect great box-office results.They also pay tribute to excellence in every aspect of film industry, including distribution, exhibition, marketing, publicity and brand partnerships.
Donning our best bibs and tuckers, the Red Rock Entertainment team joined guests Emily Corcocan, the director and screen writer of one of our current projects The Stolen; and actress, writer and director Chelsea Grant. Also helping us to enjoy one of the best dinners we’ve ever tasted at an awards ceremony were Dave Morrison, a partner at Nyman Libson Paul, film accountants extraordinaire and the brains behind the money on every James Bond film from Dr No onwards and Lee Stone from film-law specialist Lee & Thompson.
The evening was hosted with humour by broadcaster Edith Bowman, who has presided over the event for the last five years. In all, 22 awards were handed out, each one celebrating the studios, companies, teams and individuals who have succeeded in connecting audiences with films in creative and innovative ways. Those two qualities are also high on our agenda, both in terms of finding funding to turn creative dreams into onscreen reality and by offering a range of behind-the-scenes opportunities and experiences to our investor. As a major financier of UK independent film, with 8 successful projects under our belt in 2016, the Screen Awards and Red Rock Entertainment are a meeting of minds in terms of values, ethos and ambition.
Screen International has been at the epicentre of the international film industry for the last 30 years, bringing us the latest news, views and reviews. As the only UK-headquartered film trade publication, we are extra happy to support it.
The award for Specialist Film Campaign of the Year was presented to Kahloon Loke, Serden Salih), Fabrizio Montanari, Tom Abell Peccadillo Pictures by Gary Collins. “We chose to support this award because the campaigns we launch to get excellent independent film off the ground take a huge amount of graft and a good dose of passion,” he said, handing over the gong. “We can really empathise with how difficult this is to achieve, which made this category a natural choice.”
The judges praised Peccadillo for its “well-orchestrated and targeted campaign on a minimal budget, with excellent use of images”. Embrace of the Serpent is the story of the relationship between Karamakate, an Amazonian shaman and last survivor of his people, and two scientists who have spent 40 years searching the Amazon for a sacred healing plant.
It came as no surprise that the big winners on the night were the film industry’s big guns. Disney Studios took home the hotly contested Distributor of the Year award, having delivered the biggest film of all time at the UK box office, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which also scooped Theatrical Campaign of the Year — 100 Sites and Over.
Twentieth Century Fox was triumphant in four categories, winning 3D Campaign of the Year for The Martian, Premiere of the Year — 100 Sites or Over for Absolutely Fabulous: The Move, Marketing Team of the Year and PR Team of the Year (In-house).
Deadpool was also highly commended in the Theatrical Campaign category. The dancing went on until the wee hours, but with work to do and films to finance, the Red Rock team slipped out just before the conga.
