Seaside Art Gallery Welcomes International Miniature Art Show for the Month of May
Nags Head, NC (PRWEB) April 30, 2014 -- The 23rd International Miniature Art Show will be on display at the Seaside Art Gallery in Nags Head from May 3 to May 31, 2014. The show, open to children and adults alike, will feature over 500 examples of authentic miniature art crafted throughout the ages, and from artists all over the world.
Miniature art, comprised of many art portraits and some landscapes made in handheld and locket sizes, reached its peak popularity during the time of King Henry VIII in the fifteenth century, though the art form experienced a later resurgence during the 20th century.
"A miniature work of art must have all the elements that traditional sized art must have," says Melanie Smith, President of the Seaside Art Gallery. "Different techniques are used to obtain the same quality of detail, and many of them are very precise and fascinating."
For the most part, photography ended up replacing miniature art as a way to create portable pictures of loved ones. However, the art form has remained popular throughout the centuries as a showcase staple.
For the International Miniature Art Show, all art is required to be, at maximum, 40 inches square, including the frame measurement. Sculptures are permitted to have a maximum dimension of six inches in any direction.
The opening of the show will take place Saturday, May 3, and, according to Smith, "A member of the Miniature Artists of America, Debra Keirce, will demonstrate how miniature is created."
The original miniature art pieces will be on display from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. In addition to hosting the International Miniature Art Show, the gallery is home to a wide array of artwork, and a variety of art styles. Both locals and tourists are encouraged to attend and learn more about the fascinating history of art.
