In today’s mortgage industry, many companies, especially independents, cannot afford to retain a full time Chief Financial Officer (CFO), but they still need the expertise a seasoned CFO brings to the business. Matt Kiker has decades of management experience he gained through working and managing most areas within mortgage companies large and small. He worked six years as a mortgage company CFO and another six years as the executive in charge of corporate operations and strategic development at a large independent mortgage company. He earned a BBA in Finance from Baylor University.
David Brown, a Certified Public Accountant, has over 30 years of diverse senior financial executive experience with a focus on middle market companies. David has served as a CFO or senior financial executive for companies in mortgage banking (both public and private), securities brokerage, office furniture distribution and internet marketing. David spent the first six years of his career on the audit staff at Ernst & Young. He earned a BBA in Accounting from Texas A&M University.
David and Matt are long time colleagues and friends. Several years ago, Matt was hired by a board of directors as the CFO of a mortgage company on the brink of failure. Two of the many problems to be solved were the slow close of the books and the loose accounting standards the company was using. Matt called David to help bring order to the accounting system and the financial statements. David assisted by developing a system for closing the books more quickly and then providing all the entries required to bring the accounting to a place where the financial reports accurately represented the finances of the company.
David went on to become the CFO of WhiteFence while Matt remained CFO of a mortgage bank. Coincidentally, both of the companies where David and Matt were serving as CFOs were sold and both CFOs decided to start consulting. Since they had already teamed up in the past, it made perfect sense to offer the same systems and expertise that they perfected at their companies to the mortgage banking community at large.
