Seccuris working with Cyber Security Academy to help develop security professionals for the future
Winnipeg, MB (PRWEB) November 25, 2014 -- At a time when cyber threats are at an all time high, there is a shortage of qualified security professionals facing the world today. Fortunately, there are organizations working diligently to solve that problem, including Sisler High School in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, the Government of Manitoba, and companies like Seccuris, a leading cybersecurity consulting and managed services firm.
On Nov. 13, 2014, Greg Selinger, the Premier of Manitoba, announced during a special ceremony at Sisler High School in Winnipeg that it is investing $300,000 to support the expansion of Sisler’s Networking and Cyber Security Academy. The goal of the Academy is to provide high school students with the same level of cybersecurity training as similar courses offered at post-secondary schools. The Manitoba government is investing in technical training opportunities for Sisler students, as well as installing new equipment to create a state-of-the-art cyber security virtual data center.
Sisler is also working closely with leading companies to link students to paid internships, work experience, and jobs following graduation. Seccuris is one of those companies. Two Seccuris representatives, Myles Halliday, Director of Professional Services, and Nick Dixon, an information security analyst and a former Sisler student, were invited to speak at the event.
“Cybersecurity is a very strong career opportunity,” said Myles Halliday during his speech. “This Academy is a great way to learn security skills and develop talent locally. It also enables students to apply those skills in a business environment at Seccuris or other businesses. Seccuris has hired four graduates from the Academy due to the excellence of their program, and we hope to hire more in the future.”
"The need for skilled individuals in information security will continue to grow," said Michael Legary, founder and Chief Strategy Officer for Seccuris. "This announcement is a great first step in ensuring Manitoba will be on the forefront of the information economies driving new employment in the province."
Other speakers at the event included George Heshka, principal of Sisler High School, and Mark Wasyliw, the Winnipeg School Division Board Chair. To see a video of the ceremony, go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzD-q_ixtEE.
