Second Vintage of Frescobaldi for Gorgona Released
Florence, Italy (PRWEB) July 14, 2014 -- Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi, the legendary 700-year old Tuscan winemaking company, presents Gorgona 2013, the second vintage of the Vermentino and Ansonica blend produced by prisoners on the homonymous penitentiary island. Created in August 2012, the Frescobaldi for Gorgona project aims to give inmates the opportunity to gain professional work experience in winemaking by offering concrete employment opportunities at the end of their prison term.
Of the 2,500 750ml bottles and 200 magnums produced in total, all numbered, respectively 540 and 40 of them will be available in select top restaurants in the United States starting from October. All proceeds from sale of the wine will be reinvested in maintaining and expanding the project in the future. This past spring, Frescobaldi planted another hectar of vines to allow more inmates to work in the vineyard.
In addition, thanks to an idea of winery president Lamberto Frescobaldi, the project will be supported this year by an exceptional partner—the worldwide acclaimed tenor Andrea Bocelli, who wrote a testimonial and signed the label.

Gorgona penitentiary director Carlo Mazzerbo also actively took part. “It’s highly gratifying to see this project growing. Our main goal is to raise awareness of the social issues in prisons and give hope to people to start a new life once they’re out.”
Other partners of the project include Giorgio Pinchiorri—owner of Enoteca Pinchiorri, one of the most popular Italian restaurants in the world—who will provide a scholarship to one select inmate after his sentence is carried out; Simonetta Doni of Studio Doni & Associates, the leading label designer for Italian wines, who volunteered to create the original label of Gorgona; and Argotractors, which supplied the tractors for use in the vineyard.
