Securaplane Technologies obtains FAA STCs for sealed lead acid mainship batteries
TUCSON, Ariz., Oct. 11, 2017 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Securaplane Technologies, a Meggitt Company has obtained three separate FAA Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) authorizing installation of sealed lead acid (SLA) mainship batteries on Saab, Bombardier and Pilatus aircraft. The STCs were obtained under a teaming arrangement with AeroMech Incorporated, an FAA delegated STC Organizational Design Authority.
SLA batteries are frequently chosen to replace existing NiCad batteries because they are maintenance free; have superior hot and cold weather performance; can recover from deep discharge and are considered non-hazardous.
"We have had an excellent experience with Securaplane's SLA batteries on our Hawker and Pilatus business aircraft", said Rusty Hessler, Director of Maintenance at Business Aviators in Casper WY. "Sealed lead acid batteries can be returned to a full charge on wing with no danger of thermal runaway, are simple to reblock, have long intervals between maintenance checks and experience long service life – we have experienced up to five years before reblocking.
In May 2017, Securaplane received ST02530SE for the installation of two 9750W0538 batteries on the Saab 340A / 340B aircraft.
In August 2017, Securaplane received ST02552SE for the installation of three 9750W0670-18 batteries on the Bombardier DHC-8-400 (Q400) aircraft.
AeroMech is currently transferring SA02566SE to Securaplane for the installation of one 9750W0538 mainship battery on the Pilatus PC-12/45/47 aircraft and two 9750W0538 mainship batteries on the Pilatus PC-12/47E aircraft.
The system will be demonstrated at the NBAA show on 10 to 12 October (booth #C6627).
