Chef Cory Barrett, an instructor in the culinary program at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, will host free cooking demonstrations for students considering enrollment for Fall 2017. Before joining the faculty at Kalamazoo Valley last year, Barrett’s accomplishments included collaborations with celebrity-chef Michael Symon and participation as a 17-time competitor on the television show Iron Chef.
Chef Barrett’s cooking demonstrations will be held at the Kalamazoo Valley Culinary & Allied Health Building, 418 E. Walnut Street in downtown Kalamazoo from 2 to 3 p.m. on June 21 and July 19. Due to limited space, interested students and their guests are strongly encouraged to make a reservation by phoning 269.548.3205. In addition to Chef Barrett’s demonstration, students will have opportunities to tour state-of-the-art culinary facilities and meet with academic advisors.
Kalamazoo Valley’s culinary school offers a flagship Associate in Applied Science degree in Culinary Arts & Sustainable Food Systems. Students in the program learn about world cuisine, culinary heritage, food science, hospitality management, and about promoting socially-conscious farm-to-table eateries. The degree prepares students to become world-class production chefs, food entrepreneurs, or leaders in the food service/hospitality industry. Students have a unique option to also complete the Dietary Manager program en-route to a degree, which provides them with additional opportunities to work as leaders in non-commercial food service facilities, such as hospitals, school, and long-term care operations. The Kalamazoo Valley culinary school also offers fully transferable options toward completion of Bachelor’s degrees in Food Service Administration, Hospitality Management, Applied Science (Culinary), or Business Administration (Management).
The Fall semester begins on Tuesday, September 5. New students attending college for the first time are invited to apply to Kalamazoo Valley Community College this summer and must be registered for classes by August 28. For more information, go to http://www.kvcc.edu.
